About

Twenty seats at the foot of Fushimi Inari.

Wagyu-dō opened in 2024, a short walk from the approach to Fushimi Inari Taisha. We buy A5 Japanese Black wagyu, female cattle only, and sear it cut by cut on the teppan in front of you.

The dō in our name comes from sadō and kendō — the way of tea, the way of the sword. It means a practice you keep refining. That is the whole idea.

The Beef

What A5 actually means.

Every steak we serve is A5 Japanese Black (kuroge washū), always from female cattle, prized for finer, softer fat. A5 is the top mark in Japan's official grading: “A” for yield, “5” for quality, judged on marbling, meat color, firmness and texture, and the quality of the fat.

The famous melt has a reason. Wagyu fat is rich in oleic acid, the fatty acid that gives olive oil its silkiness, and it begins to melt below body temperature. It dissolves on your tongue because it literally can.

Choose your richness. Deep marbling is one answer. Some days call for a sirloin that melts; some for lean akami that tastes of nothing but beef. We serve the whole spectrum; ask us which cut fits your appetite.

The Experience

Cooked in front of you,
start to finish.

  1. 01

    The reveal

Your cut is presented raw, marbling up. Cameras are welcome; this is the photo everyone takes.

  2. 02

    The teppan

Seared in the open kitchen to the doneness you ask for, then brought straight to your table.

  3. 03

    The three ways

Salt first, then wasabi-soy, then the house truffle sauce. Guests keep asking to buy that last one.

Absolutely fantastic! The best Wagyu sirloin I've ever had. Everything you want out of wagyu and more. The salt and sauces you can add to it, along with the wasabi elevate the experience to another level. Well priced, absolutely delicious. Friendly staff that speak english well to help you if you need. Come here for fantastic wagyu at a great price!

It's in a tourist area, close enough to walk from Fushimi Inari, yet you can still get steak at a reasonable price. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice too.

Dont get me wrong, its expensive. 71 Euro's for what I had, which was wagyu Beef, the special wagyu on top of that, but god damn this was good, and worth every penny. First restaurant that left me this satisfied with the Portion I had. Especially the garlic rice with the tiny beef pieces.

The steak was delicious, the atmosphere in the restaurant was great, and the staff were very friendly. You can watch the chef cooking the steak. A great experience all round, and the ginger ale was tasty too!

The food was excellent, the staff were very kind and speak English, and the restaurant was very quiet when I ate there. For a first wagyu experience it was really enjoyable. Highly recommend it.

None of that greasy heaviness you usually get with heavily marbled beef. Instead it's pure meaty flavor and a texture where you can really feel the grain of the meat. The first bite has a light, clean beefy sweetness, and the more you chew the more flavor comes out. The meat is firm but not the least bit tough, actually really springy. Lightly charred on the outside with that great seared smell, a perfect rare-to-medium-rare inside, juicy but clean, nothing messy about it. With a bit of rock salt or wasabi soy it's so good it should be illegal.

Great quality meats with excellent attention to detail. Every plate was finished, which says a lot. Even with five kids under 8, everyone ate quietly and enjoyed their meal. The staff was attentive after taking orders, and it was fun to watch the cooking process step by step. Highly recommend.

There was no wait so we went in. It was quiet and the food was delicious, and I'm planning to come back on my next trip.

Wonderful place. The staff kept my allergies in mind the whole time, and I was able to enjoy the meal with complete peace of mind. The best food in Kyoto!

I'd been wanting to try this place for a while, and since it was New Year's I treated myself and had the beef bowl. The medium-rare meat and the sauce went really well together.

A good place to try wagyu for a reasonable price (2,700 yen) and figure out whether it's for you. Clean, tasty, I liked everything!

Артем Никандров Oct 2025 Translated from Russian

I ordered a 150g steak of what's described as "authentic wagyu red meat" and it was just right. We ordered it with vegetables, and it also came with a salad and rice. Very flavorful and tender!
